Neeraj Chopra Biography: Neeraj Chopra is an Indian track and field athlete who specializes in javelin throw. World Athletics ranks him second internationally. Chopra is a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) with the Indian Army. He is India’s first track and field athlete to win an Olympic gold medal. He is India’s first track and field athlete to win a gold medal at the IAAF World U20 Championships, and in 2016, he established a world under-20 record throw of 86.48 meters, making him the first Indian athlete to do so.

With a throw of 87.58 meters on his second try, Chopra won the gold medal in the final, making him the first Indian Olympian to win an athletics gold medal and the country’s first Olympic medallist in athletics since independence.

On July 24, 2022, Neeraj threw 88.13 meters to earn silver in the javelin throw final at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, USA. Following Anju Bobby George’s bronze medal at the 2003 World Athletics Championships, Neeraj Chopra became the second Indian to win a medal at the World Athletics Championships.

On December 24, 1997, Neeraj Chopra was born in Khandra village, Panipat district, Haryana, to Satish Kumar Chopra and Saroj Baladevi. Chopra received his graduation from Chandigarh’s DAV College.
