Nicholas Pooran, a left-handed hitter with explosive power, was selected by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for INR 4.2 crore in 2019 and made his IPL debut.
In his debut season, Pooran scored 168 runs from seven games with a strike rate of 157, displaying glimmers of his potential. The following season, he performed even better, scoring 353 runs at 169.71 in 14 games.
After a disappointing 2021 season in which he managed just 85 runs in 12 games, PBKS released him. He was later purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the IPL 2022 mega auction for INR 10.75 crore.
In 2022, Pooran reached the 300-run milestone for the second time in his IPL career. However, he was released by SRH, which led to a bidding battle at the next auction. CSK, RR, and DC were all interested, but the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ultimately purchased him for an incredible INR 16 crore.
He immediately had an effect for LSG, scoring 358 runs in 2023 at an incredible strike rate of 172.95 to help the team qualify for the playoffs. In 2024, the contract was extended.
Some may have questioned whether Nicholas Pooran was worth the astronomical ₹21 crore that the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) paid him to sign him for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Only Heinrich Klaasen’s 23 crore was more than his salary, which was the same as Virat Kohli’s.
