She was transferred to Bangalore Central Prison for 14 days of judicial custody. During questioning, Rao admitted to smuggling gold for the first time. She acquired the gold from an unidentified individual at Dubai International Airport. A search of her Bengaluru house turned up ₹2.06 crore in gold jewelry and ₹2.67 crore in cash. Rao also carried a UAE Resident Identity Card, and the DRI was looking into hawala money transfers linked to her operations.
